JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a dynamic Level 1 Cook to join the Team. As a Level 1Cook you will join a team of talented cooks/chefs preparing food for guests for our restaurant, conference lunches, weddings and special events. You will need to be enthusiastic, passionate with an eagerness to learn and develop your skills. A love of cooking with fresh ingredients is essential.

The Role:
- Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
- Measuring out meal ingredients according to a recipe
- Prepping various ingredients such as meats and vegetables
- Collaborating with the Chef and Cooks to prepare meals
- Serving food and drinks to their customers and employers
- Cleaning up the kitchen space after cooking each meal and ensuring the prep area and kitchen is cleaned and sanitised at the end of the shift
- Maintaining a pantry stock record
- Rotating stock items as per established procedures
- Restocking the pantry and fridge or freezer as necessary
- Properly storing food items at appropriate temperatures
- Informing Head Cook to order new ingredients as required
- Strong team spirit

- To ensure the entire food production process is in line with the company standards and food hygiene regulations.
- To comply with the menu standards and ensure all items area always available for consumption and are delivered to the hotel standard.
- To work with food and beverage team to ensure guests receive a seamless dining experience.
- To assist in providing staff with breakfast, lunch and dinner within the agreed budget.
- Adhere to policy and procedures as set out in the staff handbook and SOP Manual.
- Ensure that during the time you are on duty you comply with company requirements in respect of personal conduct and behaviour
- To regularly communicate with the restaurant team in regards to product availability, the length of wait, recook orders and menu questions.
- To be aware of any guest dietary requirements and allergies or any other special menu requests.
- To be knowledgeable of all the menus on offer and chef specials and have a good understanding of all dishes on the menu in order to provide recommendations and ingredients advice.
- Strict adherence to hygienic food and beverage handling procedures. Correct use of knives and chopping boards.
- To keep all food stored in line with food hygiene regulations.
- To ensure a positive guest experience to maximise repeat business.
- To meet individual targets as set by the Head Chef.
- Look after all equipment & facilities.
- To be responsible for checking in deliveries in the absence of a Head chef
The Ideal Candidate:
- Cooking experience 1 year plus qualification certificate
- Minimum NVTI level one or 2yrs experience cooking professionally with references
- Ready to be enrolled in an apprenticeship on the job certification program
- Practical/theory – test demonstration 60% pass mark minimum [during interview process]
Schedule and requirements:
- 9-hour shift – with 30min break and other short breaks as required
- 6 day weekly shift, with 1 day off
- All holidays worked [unless booked off per managers agreement in writing]
- Weekend work inclusive of shift period
- 6am to 3pm shift and 2pm till 11pm shift
- 2 testimonials from previous work places must be provided
